Chiming in from the Opposite Side of the World

Wow, folks, its been a couple of weeks, and I was in no mood to blog after the Eagles blew that game versus the GYNts...I mean I would've had to write a horror script for that game to turn out like that....I don't want to think about it.

I hope this cements in their minds that they can never take their proverbial foot off the gas...Hear that Andy? No more letting up, crush your opponents and hear the lamentation of de women...alright?? No more Mr. Nice guy....you better hand the 49ers their lunch, dinner and a midnight snack...got it??? GOOD

So anyways, my blog took a hit because I am now in JAPAN!!!!
Believe that sh*t? Sometimes its hard for me too. BLogging about the Eagles from Hawaii was goofy enough, but from cold Misawa Airbase? Unreal.

I will be posting some photos of our Japanese style house (we gotta live off base) and detailing some of the oddities about living at the beginning of each day....Like how games that start at 1PM EST come on TV at 2AM Monday morning here in the Land of the Rising Sun. Last games are a bit better...for instance, tomorrow's game versus the Niners starts at 0500. I just hope we don't have to do anything before 8AM cause it will be hard for me to leave before the game is over.

And just how will I be watching it? Hmmm, I think it will have to be by Webcam. Armed Forces Network does a decent job of broadcasting games, (the one cool thing, they show the top match-ups from each conference both early AND late) So it like having each network show a doubleheader every weekend, instead of every other....The bad part: no way to guarantee that I will see the Iggles...AUGH...that it what the webcam is for. I will have my dad point it at the TV so I at least get to see something. Plus I should get to listen to Merril do the local play-by-play.

More later, don't have a steady ISP yet, so cannot guarantee consistent posts...yet....

Stallworth or Branch? MY Take

Interesting question on the forums today, should the Eagles have pursued ex-Pat WR Deion Branch, for whom the Seahawks traded a 1st round pick in 2007 and then promptly signed to a mega-bucks contract...($39 million bucks)?

Lets take a look at the facts as I understand them...Just two weeks earlier the Eagles made an excellent trade, LB Simoneau and a conditional 4th round pick (looks like it'll be a 3rd pick the way Donte' started) for the speedy Donte' Stallworth, who is in a contract year (i.e. the last year of his rookie contract)...
The difference between Stallworth and Branch: bitching...Deion was holding out and making a big stink over his lack of an extension and was basically driving himself out of Bah-ston...Anyone hear a peep from Stallworth, who was coming off a career year last year...Nope...was he probably unhappy with his situation with the 'aints...yup, but he was at least in camp (albeit limited by a few nagging nicks ((real or not))). I didn't read any stories about fines piling up...and trust me the Eagles have/had ABSOLUTELY NO interest in troublemaking WRs (see the distinct lack of interest in some players I happen to think are pretty good: Ashley Lelie, Jerry Porter, the aforementioned Branch).

Why else wouldn't the Eagles do it: Branch wanted his contract re-done and he wants plenty of green...why would the Eagles do that with a WR and cough up a significant chunk of change for a player who spent no time in camp, is not in game shape, and probably won't be able to contribute all that much for at least several weeks....Donte', on the other hand, seems content to play for his pay, and knows the Eagles have the space, and probably will pony up with an extension if he works hard and proves himself...(I think we have the very professional Joe Horn to thank for that [cell phone incident excepted])

Would having both of them be cool, you bet, but this the real world, not Madden 2007 (which I won't get to play until Nov. AUGH) and there is no chance the Eagles would part with a #1 pick in '07 and a huge contract (especially if faced with the potential to suddenly have to try and satisfy Stallworth's expectations later on). So the Eagles made their choice....I like Donte'; I think he realizes if he plays well, that the Eagles have the cap space and a history of locking players they like...Branch wanted to be paid for past performance (which he had in spades); Stallworth seems to undestand that once he displays his professionalism, attitude and ability that the Eagles will be there with an offer (and if Week 1 becomes a trend, there will be offers made by Nov -you heard it here)

Misadventures with Spray Paint and What the Eagles need to do to Beat the GYNts

Ok, ok, I admit it. I am NOT very handy around the house...I can do basic things OK, and a couple of thing decent, but I usually run into trouble, like today...simple spray painting....My error is NOT an inability to point the can in the right direction, my faux pas today was in purchasing some cheapo-brand....I was at Wal-Mart (yes, I managed to escape from their event horizon of consumer evil) and I THOUGHT I was buying Rust-oleum...oopsie...I guess I better get a rebate on my Lasik cause I wound up buying something called ColorTime (I think its the generic Walmart brand)....I didn't realize it until I got home...I was like...sh*t...but I didn't want to go back...so I figured I would try it out....BAD IDEA....that crap-ass nozzle put more paint on my hands than the outdoor furniture I was trying to recoat....dammit...so here I am practically washing my hands in acetone (which isn't supposed to come into contact with your skin BTW) to get this cheap gunk off....I wised up and switched to rubber gloves afterwards....

Lesson for you all: you get what you PAY FOR....buy cheap, get cheap....

Now for the real reason I logged on today: to answer the question on every inquiring mind: who do I think this weekend. I will keep tonight's comment to two games: Philly vs NYG and Dallas vs Washington....that right folks, there are two HUGE games this weekend...My hope is that the Eagles will have a 2 game lead on two other teams in the NFC East.

1. First up, Eagles - GYNts....this is going to be a tough game for the Iggles, the GYNts put up a good game, and if not for a cheesy offensive pass interference call, NYG could be rolling into town on a huge win...Can the Eagles win this game...yes, no doubt, but they have to do a couple things: a) contain Tiki....notice I didn't say stop...the Eagles have rarely been able to STOP Tiki, but they have been able to prevent Tiki alone from beating them, and I think that is the gameplan to victory once again...Tiki gets that team rolling, and if our D can keep from letting Tiki steamroll them, we got a definite shot... b) keep up the balanced attack...ok, I can hear you now, "Thanks Captain Obvious, you just told me that the key to the Eagles winning is to run the ball and to stop the run"...yeah, that basically what I am getting at, but in the Eagles' case its a little more nuanced. The Iggles need balance....they cannot let Osi and Strahan just tee off and play "lets meet at McNabb" all afternoon...The Colts' RB Addai had a couple of decent runs last week (though they garnered a paltry 55 yards in the game, I think that's an equal reflection of Peyton's propensity to pass this year {in effect calling his own number since he makes a lot of calls at the line} without the uber-reliable Edge in the backfield. Get Westbrook out on the flanks, get the ball to Buck a few extra times and let our massive interior line blast some GYNt ass off the field a few times.... no score here, but I think the Eagles continue their rebound from 2005 and manage to close out the GYNts at home.

2) Dallas vs Washington...I think the Cowgurls have the here, simply from the fact that they're at home, and NO ONE wants to drop to 0-2 with a home loss to a division rival. Moreover, I am not sold on the Foreskins vaunted offense...they did OK against the Vikings, but really only put together one decent drive (the ones capped off by a Portis run)...when the game was on the line, the Skins came up small. I think that IF the Dallas O-line can keep Bledsoe upright, he will be able take advantage of the absence of Shawn Springs and the out-for-the-year safety, Pierson Prileau. For all his team erosion downside, MEO has a huge upside ON THE FIELD...so expect Drew to find him a few times against a depleted secondary... Dallas wins at home...(dammit)

More Eagles commentary coming soon!

The Move has begun

Hey everyone,

My primary computer is now boxed up and on a slow-boat to Japan, so my ability to rant about the Eagles will be constrained over the next few weeks as we transition to the Far East. Once I get settled, I will continue, but I don't expect to be able to post more than a few blogs a week until then...oh well, I know you are all vastly disappointed.

Now for some Eagles news: as predicted Bruce Perry was NFL'd this week, our starting CB Lito Sheppard has a sprained ankle, so the Eagles needed to sign another CB....the RB to CB move obviously wasn't going to work, so the Eagles brought back Dexter Wynn, a 2004 - 6th rounder, who has some return skills....good cause I don't want to see Westbrooks shagging punts anymore...sorry... electrifying player and all, but I would rather see him taking swing passes than having some special team suicide warrior barreling down the field taking a free shot on our most dangerous offensive weapon.

I was happily surprised that LB Matt McCoy had a real good game against the Texans....Now he gets a real test...the GYNts are a good team, and kill us with screens to Tiki, I would love to see McCoy submarine a few of those plays....that would go a long way towards making me feel better about our LB situation.

Catch y'all later, should have some more time to think tomorrow, as I am done with work, yeah that's right, on my last couple weeks of paid leave (get paid through the end of the month, which is sweet....after that its unpaid leave until I find a new job, which isn't so sweet).

Micc's First Impression from Week 1

Bush vs Mario watch:
Hmm, by my talley, Reggie Bush compiled 141 combined yards in New Orleans' victory, while Mario Williams disappeared (3 tackle) as the Eagles stomped the Texans...oh well...

My quick hits from around the league:
- MEO who? Donovan looked crisp, and once the Eagles O hit its groove (about the time the 2nd quarter rolled around) the front line began to dictate, and the McNabb & Co. pieced together some impressive drives. Defensively, the D-Line secured 4 of the teams 5 sacks and didn't let Carr get back on track after a good opening drive. Sweet.
- What's wrong with Seattle? Sure they won (on a last second FG) but by three, over Detroit??? Color me unimpressed.
- Atlanta looked impressive...they manhandled the team many picked to represent the NFC in Miami...that said, Vick's statistics were ordinary, but the key for him was the select plays that he made (whether with him feet or arm). Look he's average as a QB, but so long as Jim Mora Jr doesn't try and force this square peg into the round hole of his offense and just lets Vick make some plays....the Falcons could be tough...
- The Bears looked pretty good, and completely dismantled the hapless Packers.. how can a team with Brett Favre at QB be so terrible?? Anyway, if the Bears receivers keep making catches like they did today...The Bears will cruise to the NFC North crown.
- OMG did Trent Green get annihilated....After he was gone, the Chiefs were done...the Bengals just stuck a fork in them and that was it.
- Tampa sucked...no big surprise there considering the injuries on the O-line....but getting blanked 27-0 by the Ravens is pretty pathetic...there should be some folks jumping off the Bay bridge this week...
- The Best part of the day (besides the Eagles win)....Dallas LOSING!! MEO actually scored, but that probably is bad news for Cowgurls since it sets up the potential "I'm doing my part" scenario as I detailed in my MEO-Cowboys analysis a few days ago.

Its Only a few hours Kickoff

Had a VERY busy Saturday, so I haven't been hitting the Eagles forums or reading much news about much of anything today.
I like one of the latest headlines on ESPN, "Cowboys may have kicking concerns"...um no crap, their expensive new kicker Vanderjagt--or Vander-choke as I call him--didn't travel with the team, so some bum whose gotten cut numerous time before will kick for the Cowboys tomorrow (or later today, depending on what time zone you're in)...I wonder how that is going to work out. Parcells is notoriously short-fused when it comes to kickers....he has one expectation, that they're ready to kick and that they'll hit gimmee FGs...0-2 so far...

As for the Eagles...my prediction is Eagles 27 Texans 10....we should gobble up a Texans offense that is just beginning to learn the system Coach Kubiak brought over from Denver...

As for what's going on....lots of stuff getting ready for the move to Japan. My web access is going to be restricted to my wife's laptop, which is going to curtail my posts here and on the forums...but I will try and keep up. I am going to go to the enlisted club on Hickam AFB to check out the game tomorrow, its starts at 7am local-time, and then a little after noon, the wife and I will probably go over to a picnic. I will get to see a bunch of games...afterwards, I will give y'all my impressions of Week 1.

Want to Know what game is being broadcast in your local area?

Hey y'all,

Tired of rifling through the Sports section to figure out what game is being broadcast in your local area? Go here. The guy posts color maps of the U.S. so you can quickly figure out which games are being shown where.

Now that we have that administrivia out of the way, its time to talk some Iggles...and the new that all-world safety Brian Dawkins will see some playing time at linebacker.

I like the idea of playing Brian Dawkins closer to the line in select situations, sort of a freelance Linebacker who, if the play call demands it, can easily drop back and cover a TE. Plus if he's replacing second-year man Matt McCoy at the WILL, I don't see much of a drop-off against the run...

This is actually a MUCH brighter idea than that weird decision to try and turn a running back into a corner. (scroll down)...

Eagles Craziness - Turning a RB into a CB????

The absolute goofiest thing I have heard in a long while regarding the Eagles was the news today that running back Bruce Perry is switching sides and becoming a cornerback!! A corner?? What the hell is that all about? We can't stick him at CB, a frickin' Arena league QB would tear him apart, let alone some dudes we'll face this year (Blesoe, Delhomme, Manning, et al) .

This only solidifies Perry's NFL status (that is NOT FOR LONG) on the Philadelphia Eagles. Are you trying to tell me that Perry is a better DB than the ones we cut? Better than Dexter Wynn, Matt Ware and JR Reed? I ain't buying this one, Andy Reid...I cut the Eagles front office a lot of slack...A LOT...but this move is a true head-scratcher....there is NO way in the world I would be comfortable seeing a former RB lining up opposite another teams WR...yeah yeah all you Troy Brown fans can go suck wind, at least he was wide receiver and knew what it was like downfield...Perry is a trench rat....

Tell us what your thinkin' Andy...or share some of your stash....

On another note: yet another illustration of why I just don't trust the Phillies, as the wildcard heats up, the Phils wilt...case in point, tonight: while the Marlins get a no-hitter from formerly no-name rookie pitcher, Aribal Sanchez, the Phillies blow yet another critical game in the 9th inning...when the going gets tough, the Phils go fishing...have funs on links in Florida in October boys...better extract yer heads from yer butts fellas, there is post-season berth just begging to be taken, Florida smells it, why can't you?

Breaking down MEO's Impact on the Cowgurls

MEO, the ex-Eagle wide receiver for whom I otherwise use the He-who-shall-not-be-named moniker, could be an awesome addition to the Cowboys offense. That is IF Bill Parcells is willing to feed MEO's ego and call about 15 MEO-first passing plays a game (like the Eagles did)...

However, I have put the MEO impact on the Cowpokes some thought and used a fairly standard box chart analytical method to develop four possible scenarios. Three have negative outcomes for the Cowboys (though from perspective of this Eagles fan, that is 75% goodness rate). I used two basic criteria for this analysis: MEO is getting his stats (YES/NO); Cowboys Team is winning (YES/NO). I define "stats" as MEO getting at least 6+ catches/game (thrown to at least 12 times); having at least 3-4 100+yd receiving game by Week 7 and scoring at a rate of ~ 1TD/game.

1) MEO is getting his stats/The 'Boys are winning - this is the ONLY scenario that is all smiles for the cowpokes...This is a rehash of the Eagles 2004 season, the Cowboys ride high, cruise through some early wins, torture bad defenses, and Sportscenters has showcased at least two long MEO run-after-catch TDs; little tantrums or comments get overlooked/glossed over by winning.

2) MEO is getting his stats but the Cowboys are NOT winning: bad news here, because eventually something akin to (am I am paraphrasing here): "I'm doin' my part" will come out of the piehole beneath MEO's nose...which of course, the press will "Blow out of porportion" and "misrepresent" because obviously MEO has never before blamed other teammates for not pulling their weight...

The final two are bad because they are premised on negative answers to the is MEO getting his stats portion of the analysis.

3) MEO not getting his stats (fair due, etc)/ Cowboys winning...Even if the 'Boys are winning, MEO will NOT be happy (though I suspect he will smile and probably at least say the right things about just wanting to contribute). Look MEO is a narcissist. He has this inborn aversion to success is seems...he just cannot deal with being happy...especially if observers may be giving credit for said success to someone else...Trust me, MEO will be moderately satisified if he is credited with getting the 'Boys over the top/being the missing ingredient, what have you, but if its the 'Boys running game and D that leads to 6-2 record and people are wondering why MEO only has 2 TDs...he will not be a happy camper, I don't care how wide he flashes that big smile.

4) MEO not getting his stats/Cowboys losing...this is my personal favorite, but unfortuantely the one I think it the least likely (damn). Its all bad here folks, if MEO is not producing and the team slips up a couple of weeks, the wolves be out and all over the story like, uh, a pack of wolves...umm...white on rice...stink on poo...R. Kelley on a teen? pick your favorite mixed metaphor...

What do y'all think?

Run EAGLES Run; Why I Just Cannot Root for the Phillies, and a passing thought on Ryan Howard

I like the article today about how the Eagles are going to run the ball more... of course, it would difficult for the Eagles to run the ball LESS than they did last year (only the Raiders and Cardinals accomplished that feat). What they need in some atty-tude runs early in games, and let than new beef ball some punks off the line a few times...The Eagles have had some decent O-Line recent, but they get so accustomed to rocking back in their stances to pass protect that it seems like they never quite get their rhythm when they try and run....then they get discouraged and stop trying...I hope that Marty Mohrningwheg changes that, I think a 2003 45/55% run/pass ratio would be great for this team for a few reasons:
- The Eagles do have some dangerous runners...much as folks like to dismiss our backs, Westbrook is explosive and Moats flashed some decent skills running behind a sub-par O-line last line
- Running will help keep McNabb healthy, whenever we go pass-whacky, it jeopardizes "5" cause he generally take more hits...
- But you know what, most Eagles fans already knows this, since we are the most knowledgeable, best fans in the sport (shameless plug) so I am going to shift gears to a different sport: one I tend to dislike - Baseball.

I know there is some debate about whether or not Phans are getting excited about the Phillies "wildcard" run...I, for one, am NOT...
My first reason: I vowed last year never to root for this team again while under its current ownership. I believe the current owners do not care about winning, and that all they want to be competitive and sucker phans into the stands...
My second reason: I just don't see the Phillies being a team that going to reach out and take this wildcard take...its there for the taking, and what do I see the Phils doing? splitting double-headers, losing leads in the 9th inning, etc...these are not the signs that one wants to see from a team that COULD, if they got it together, simply snatch this postseason opening as their own...
My third reason: I am not going to be fair-weather phan, I haven't rooted for them all season, I haven't changed my mind about their pitching (not good enough), have fun on the bandwagon...

Don't get me wrong, I am not rooting against them, I simply cannot commit any emotion to a team that let me down time and again in the past...I wish them well...

The only thing I will endeavor to comment on: Ryan Howard, I really hope he ties or breaks Roger Maris' record of 61 home runs....what? whats that you say? Barry Bonds owns the record with 74...sorry doesn't count...he juiced it up...I agree with John Smallwood, NO TEAM should offer Bonds a contract next year...let him stew at whatever 7xx figure he's at the end of this season....

Its Fantasy Time

Well I decided to go forth and do good things this year with fantasy football...I was going to take the season off, with the move to Japan and all I don't know how much time I will have to make adjustments early in the season...

Still, I like the live draft and did it through ESPN this year, the cool part was that all 10 owners were there....Of course all the top backs were gone by the time I picked at 5...and I just couldn't pass on Peyton....I never get him...more backs were disappearing so I focused on them the next couple of picks, snagging Caddilac Williams and Brian Westbrook as my top two starters...(so in a 10 team league I got 3 players rated in the top 20, not too bad)...

Then I decided it was time to get a WR, so I passed on Hines (no Ben, no Hines) and selected Roy Williams, figuring he'll be Kitna's security blanket in Detroit...grabbed Chester Taylor after that as RB insurance and then nabbed Derrick Mason who I think will rebound in a big way after being reunited with Steve McNair...

The rounded out team looks like this:
QB (2): Peyton and Trent Green
RB (5): Caddy and WB, Taylor, Joe Addai and Musa Smith as backups/fodder
WR (4): Williams and Mason start, with Reggie Brown and Muhsin Muhammed for depth
TE (2): Witten starts (yeah I chose a Cowboys AUGH!) with Dallas Clark as my back-up
K (1): David "Green" Akers is where I wanted to be, and I got him
D (2): Steelers start, with the 'Boys D being my mop up crew...
I like the line up...
week 1 I gotta play Tom Brady, Shaun A, Warrick D, T. Glenn and Nate B....

Random Observations from around the NFL

So the Tex-assns put Domanick Davis on IR, making their failure to select Reggie Bush all the more alarming now that their running game is in the hands of Verand Morency and Wali Lundy (who dat you say? EXACTLY...now these guys might be good, and Houston could be fine but Davis was someone you had to account for and outside of Andre Johnson, the Texans only real playmaker). Too bad Mario can't carry the ball...the production comparison are going to be inevitable, and if the Texans running game stalls...look out...

- I see the Saints put Jermane Mayberry on IR this season...you know...I hope its not the end of his career, but after 11 years, nearly all of them with the Eagles, I have to say it doesn't look good. He did a lot of good in Philly during his time with the Eagles, helping to found the Eagles Eye Mobile to give eye-care to needy children. A class-act, I hope Mayberry comes back to the area, but if he stays in New Orleans, I am sure he will do a lot of good there as well.

- The Jeff George experiment lasted all of a week...still gotta wonder how much confidence coach Art Shell has in the fumble-waiting-to-happen Aaron Brooks...

- Headline on ESPN is Young dazzles in final preseason game...so passing for 80 yds and 1 TD is a "dazzling" performance nowadays...against Green Bay? Color me unimpressed.

- Vinatieri "only" has a sprained foot. I don't care that its his non-kicking foot, any time you start talking about kickers with pained feet, I worry. NOT that I think the Colts are missing Vander-choke about now...but if Mr. Clutch becomes Mr. Crutch...things might not be all that great inside the dome this year...

Iran gets put on "Double-Secret" Probation

Man-'o-man, U.N. General Secretary really laid down the law to Iran's national butthead Ahmedenijad today, you could almost see the Iranians quaking in their boots are the all-smiles press-friendly hand-shake session...I think the pic below displays Annan's stern scolding of the Iranian for being very, very bad boys and not heeding those pesky U.N. resolutions...
I think the message got through, cause Annan said afterwards that the Iranians were "willing to talk" (not willing to stop their nuclear program, but will to talk)...Of course they are...

I hear Kofi informed the Iranians that the U.N. was putting them on double-secret probation, which explains the look of contrition on A-mad's face (don't want to butcher the spelling of his name again)
How can you not trust a face like that, just because he believes the of the imminent return of the Mahdi, the destruction of Israel and of a cataclysmic confrontation with the West...

In a serious turn, can the U.N. get anymore feckless than it already is...when even punk-ass African countries like the Sudan can thumb their nose at it, what incentive does a relatively powerful like Iran have to adhere to toothless U.N. resolutions...

We've done such a good job in Sudan too....I think this cartoon sums up my feelings regarding the retarded nature of the this demonstrably USELESS world body:

Cut Down Day

My first impression of the Eagles moves on cut down day:

- Well well well, I had thought the Eagles would keep 6 WR, instead of their traditional 5 just based on a lack of depth...instead they keep 5 and go with 6 RBs...
- Parry and Fraley traded for draft picks eh? Well that is a typical move...Hicks and Thomas went in draft-day move up deals, and this year was one of the first where the Eagles did NOT have extra picks lying about....Heckert, Reid and Banner LOVE having extra picks come draft day though, and these are moves for the future...you could almost see the writing on the wall when the Front Office signed Fraley's competition to a long-term extension...Parry, well he was a decent blocker, but he couldn't run for sh*t and was ineffective as a pass-catcher (to say the least)...
- Am glad to see Tapeh grab a spot, he got some skills as a runner and he's BIG...
- for all you thinking about plucking a gem out of some other team's garbage - I think the Eagles will look to Tapeh to be the team's "big back"
- Took bad for J.R. Reed, the comeback story of camp, I think if he'd busted some runs and flashed a few field-position-reversing returns, like he did in 2004, he'd have forced his way onto the roster...I still think he's got potential, if anyone gets injured...I think JR's phone could be ringing...
- 10 both on O and D line? That's a lot of dudes to carry up front...I like all the D-linemen, but am a bit surprised at the # of rookies the Eagles kept...McCoy and Cole? you mean on of them wouldn't make it through to the practice squad? They must be good though, cause their play evidently convinced the Front office to git-while-the-gittin'-was-good and trade Fraley (our primary experienced back-up)
- I really thought McCants would make the team, but then again all the speculation about the WR position was predicated on them retaining 6 on the roster...since they're going with 5, those they kept (Stallworth, Brown, Avant, Baskett and Lewis) make sense....
- I did not think the Eagles would keep so many backs...Westbrook, Buckhalter, Moats, Mahe, and Bruce Perry? Plus Tapeh as the FB...I'm just not sold on the utility of keeping both Perry and Mahe...I had thought that Mahe versatility would made him less likely to get cut than Perry, but I didn't think they'd keep them both...perhaps, if they decide to bring in another guy from somewhere, the expendable body will come from this group....

Hmm, what about some the players on other teams who got cut...Keith, the bullet, Adams failed to made the Carolina squad, could he come back...he wouldn't replace rookie LB Gaither, but he could bump STs-maven J. Short and he's been a starter on this club...not a particularly effective one, but he could be valuable reserve...

Please don't bring up Ron Dayne...he's washed up....I'm intrigued by Najeh Davenport, cause when he was healthy he was a load...but I don't think plucking dudes who cannot make the roster on one of the worst teams in the league is a particularly encouraging sign...

Saw World Trade Center last night, will try and get a review out on that too...

Bring on the Texans!

- Another nice catch by Avant and the grit to take it back up inside and into Jets territory
- Awesome run by Perry...HOLDING...WHAT the hell....man, that sucks...frickin' WR holding away from the play...that blows for him....cause I don't think Bruce P is going to make this team.
- hmm another batted ball from Timmy Chang...augh...well at least Dirk is ok....downed at the 2, nice job special teams!
- Timmy Chang is horrible...I mean these are the Jets scrubs....
- you know for as entertaining as the first half was, this second half has been blah
- Jeez was it just me or did Matt Ware really regress this preseason??

Anyone notice a resemblence to that icon of poor Eagles secondary play....Toast!

I like Merrill Reese's pre-season notes...and I agree...McNabb has looked relaxed and rejuvenated, the 1st teamers have looked really good, especially the O & D lines...Addition of Donte Stallworth is huge...in each pre-season game the 1st teamers have dominated, the only reason the Eagles are headed for 2-3 (and might just get there by the time I am done with this) is the inept Timmy Chang, who has done almost nothing on O the entire pre-season, so whenever the Detmers and Changs have taken over with the lead, they cough the ball up and eventually the lead disappears....though as I type this TC is proving me wrong by actually engineering a drive into Jets territory...
PLEASE NO O.T. Andy...don't be Tuna-stoopid and try and force O.T. and go all out to win a meaningless game...in 2:00 minutes this game better be over, with almost everyone healthy (a huge difference from other years)
--- 30 yard pass to Jenkins at the NYJ 6-yard line!!...wow...prove me wrong Timmy, go right ahead...I dare ya....--oops, booth review of the catch...figures...its a catch, give it to him...
First and goal...yikes...Perry went NO-where...second and goal Perry down to the 2...third and goal, Perry inside the 1....oh...they didn't get it at fourth and goal....who cares...take your healthy team home....

Bring on the Texans!

Impressions from the First Half of this final warm-up

I am watching the game via webchat...and it is just me or does AJ Feeley looks REALLY sharp, I mean sharp enough for me to wonder about whether or not it would be better for AJ to come into games or Garcia? Garcia just seems jumpy back there...he bounces around a lot....Feeley just seems, um, smoother...he when his passes miss they still look good.
- Very impressed by Ryan Moats this game. I know it against the second string, but that is when your supposed to do well, and he did show the same burst we saw last year (50+ and NO fumbles!)
- McCants looks like a man determined to make it as hard as possible for the coaches to cut him. Snagged 3 passed that I counted, some nice catches....if I had to guess...McCants played himself onto the team, especially given his good work on special teams....
- Some sweet snags by Avant as well...nice to him get some touches
- Very nice 2-minute drill by AJ, very nice...you know I was thinkin' if AJ had been released earlier in the off-season, the Eagles probably would've just signed him and passed on Garcia...
- What was Akers doing? Running down the goal-line, getting some wind sprints in?
- Dirk better be alright
